Lunar Occultation of Venus
On this Friday, 27 May 2022, the Moon will pass in front of planet Venus in the morning sky.
Venus is the third brightest object in the sky, after the Sun and the Moon. It is so bright that you can actually see it in the daytime under ideal condition.
On Friday, you should be able to locate the bright Venus near the 26-day-old waning crescent moon. A pair of binoculars or a small telescope will surely help. WARNING: Do not look at the Sun with your binoculars or telescope without a proper filter!
At 10:24 am, the Moon will start blocking Venus, where Venus will disappear behind the lit limb of the Moon. Venus will then spend almost 2 hours behind the Moon. At 12:07 pm, the Moon will finally move out of the way, and Venus will reappear from the dark limb of the Moon.
