Contest Rules, Terms & Conditions:
This contest is open to all amateur astrophotographers residing in Malaysia. Contestant must have a contactable address in Malaysia.
All photos submitted must be taken by the participant from anywhere on Earth within the calendar years of 2025 and 2026. Photos that have been submitted to any other astrophotography contest will not be accepted.
Subject of the photo submitted must be wide field starscape (e.g. Milky Way, constellations, stars with landscape, etc.), solar system objects (e.g. Sun, Moon, planets, etc.), or deep sky objects (e.g. nebulas, galaxies, star clusters, etc.).
Composite photos (except for deep sky objects) and stacked photos (for noise reduction and dynamic range enhancement) with exposures from the same location using the same equipment are allowed.
Photos taken with smart telescopes are accepted.
Images generated with artificial intelligence (AI) tools, in part or in whole, are not allowed. Processing with AI tools shall be limited to plugins or built-in functions within dedicated astrophoto processing software (e.g. Pixinsight, Siril, etc.) only, and must be stated clearly.
Each participant may submit up to a maximum of five (5) entries. Each submission should be provided with participant’s full name, a title and a short description of the photo, date and location the photo was taken, equipment used, camera settings, post processing techniques and software used.
Photos submitted must be in JPEG format with a minimum resolution of 1,000 pixels on the shorter edge. A high resolution copy of the winning photos will only be requested from winners for printing purpose.
All entries must be submitted through the Google Form at https://bit.ly/4g6yrRV before 11:59:59 p.m. MYT on 30th September 2026.
Thirteen (13) best photos will be decided by a panel of three (3) judges for the main prizes of one (1) First Prize, one (1) Second Prize, one (1) Third Prize, and ten (10) Consolation Prizes.
The thirteen (13) winning photos will be featured on the Astronomical Calendar 2027 to be published by the Astronomical Society of Penang.
Each participant may win only one prize. Each winner will receive one copy of the Astronomical Calendar 2027 and one A2 size poster of his/her winning photo.
Astronomical Society of Penang reserves the right to disqualify any submission if it is determined to have violated any of the contest rules, terms and conditions.
Astronomical Society of Penang reserves the right to use the submitted photos in its future promotional activities, with credit given to the participants.
Astronomical Society of Penang reserves the right to revise the contest rules, terms and conditions at any time without prior notice.
Any decision by the Astronomical Society of Penang with regard to the contest shall be final and no correspondence will be entertained.
